Artist Super Market's Comic Island at Grand Union

Artist Super Market/Rope Press created this brilliant paper mache comic island at Grand Union as part of Digbeth First Friday. I regularly print risograph music zines with Rope Press and was asked to bring along some comics and zines for the installation. You can also see Nathan Hill's Hotel Anthology on the right hand side of the photo. It was great to have a little flick through before the comic is ready for distribution.

Sketch and Stitch Exhibition at The Gallery, Kenilworth

I have 2 ink drawings for sale at the Sketch and Stitch Exhibition at The Gallery in Kenilworth. The original A3 ink drawing for the cover of That Music Zine and The Charlatans gig sketches from the Godiva Festival clipped out of my sketchbook, both in custom made frames. The venue has regular music events - listings can be found on their Facebook

I'm also dropping off some comics and zines for the Artist Super Market at Grand Union from the 7th April. You can find out more information about various events and workshops that weekend over on their Facebook event page.

The Midlands Lo-Operative Alternative Art Market

Thanks to everyone at The Midland Lo-Operatives Alternative Art Market at The Hare & Hounds yesterday. It was a quiet afternoon, but still lovely to watch live art progress and hang out with other Artists from the local area who wouldn’t normally at the same sorts of events. There were talks about growing the event and the next one falling some time in June so look out for that! Special thanks for Olly for inviting me along. It was great to meet Lewes Herriot who designs great posters for This Is TMRW - a lot of my gig sketches are from their events. You can find more beautiful fantasy/adventure illustrations on his website.

My next booked event isn't until May - I'm hoping to book a couple more events in the summer so check the blog sidebar for an up to date list. Don't forget I have an Etsy shop which ships worldwide. Thanks!

Birmingham MCM Comic Con March 2017

Thank you to everyone who came by my table at Birmingham MCM Comic Con over the weekend. It was a relatively quiet show but still really lovely to catch up with convention friends after a longer winter break. I had fun doing convention commissions for the first time in years, it went ok so I'm considering offering them at future shows.

The next event I'm going to be at is The Midland Lo-Operatives this Sunday afternoon at The Hare & Hounds. I regularly take a sketchbook to gigs and draw bands while I'm stood in the crowd and feature them in my music zines. The Hare & Hounds is a venue I often end up drawing at, so it's nice to be taking the zines there for an Alternative Art Market. Thanks, see you there!

Do What You Want Zine

Do What You Want is a zine about mental health compiled by Ruby Tandoh and Leah Pritchard to raise money for 4 relevant charities and non-profit organizations. I wrote and drew a short comic about my own experience with health anxiety in particular. There's a long list of great illustrators on their website, so it sounds like it's going to be packed full of great illustrations to go along side interesting content. Preorders will open on Big Cartel from the 3rd March with the zine launch on the 28th April.

This Is Not A Serious Music Publication featured in Kerrang Magazine

I created a music zine with Sarah Fogg called This Is Not A Serious Music Publication. We discovered it was featured in Kerrang Magazine this week. The zine can be ordered through Etsy www.etsy.com/shop/sammyborras

Hourly Comic Day 2017

It was Hourly Comic Day last week - an annual challenge to produce one journal comic per waking hour of the day. I've printed my comic into a mini zine like in previous years. It's now available to order through my Etsy shop. I can confirm I have a table at both Birmingham and London MCM this year. I've applied for a couple events in 2017 so check the blog sidebar for an up to date list. Thank you!

Dead Singers Society #3

This preview image is from a comic about Arthur Russell I created for Good Comics Dead Singers Society Volume 3. I had a lot of fun listening to his music and looking up radio and film documentary's for research. Broken Frontier have posted a great review about the project - you can read it here. Good Comics have a table at True Believers tomorrow in Cheltenham or you can order online through their Big Cartel shop.

I still haven't booked any comics events for 2017 just yet but look out for confirmation announcements via twitter
